Real and tangible
environmental progress

Globally and locally, there is a collective effort by most to adhere to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG). PILOT recognises the importance of the UNSDG. In particular, we have a part to play in helping achieve Goal 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production.

Transitioning to a circular economy

Circularity is built on the conservation and regeneration of natural systems that seek to mimic nature’s circular resource flows. A circular economy integrates these practices and frameworks into modern, industrial, and global supply chains to design out waste and pollution and keep products & materials in use for longer.

At Pilot Pen Australia, we see the effort being made by businesses and government departments to become more environmentally friendly in their operations. That’s why we’re committed to helping organisations & individuals transition to a circular economy.

Our framework for climate action

At Pilot Pen Australia, we too are on a journey, as we consider both the product lifecycle
and circular economy principles when developing products.

Reuse by Refilling

Reuse of products is at the top of the waste hierarchy, higher up than ‘recycle’ Generally, the higher up the waste hierarchy, the bigger the positive impact on our environment.

Refilling products is one way to reuse & is at the heart of our sustainability approach – it’s about avoiding or eliminating plastic waste by extending the life of plastics and reducing the use of raw materials. We’ve designed a quality, Japanese produced range of writing instruments that can be refilled many times over for both economical and sustainable effectiveness.

Prioritising recycled materials

The extractions of raw materials needed to products plastic adds to a pen’s carbon footprint. That’s why, since 2006, we have used recycled plastic in our range of BegreeN writing instruments.

Sustainable Packaging for a better future

Since 2010, we have reduced quantities of virgin plastic using recycled plastic and FCS-certified cardboard. In 2021, we continued even further with the implementation of plastic-free packaging.

Pilot Pen Australia is committed to implementing a system that meets the Australian Packaging Covenant guidelines through adopting the Sustainable Packaging Guidelines and promoting product stewardship. For further details please view our latest progress annual report.
