Frequently Asked Questions

Gel ink might be difficult to remove completely. We recommend the following: Dissolve some hand soap in water and slowly tap the stained clothing with it. Rinse under running water and repeat if necessary.

Although we cannot guarantee or be responsible for any stain removal especially in removing it completely we suggest the following: Generally it is better to use Ethanol (Ethyl Alchol) which is a solvent to dissolve oil based ink. Thinner or Benzaine can also be used for removal of stains, but they are stronger than ethanol and they may damage material. In the first instance use a cloth soaked in Ethanol first and wipe up the ink stain carefully. If this is unsuccessful then try thinner or Benzaine.

Ballpoint pen Ballpoint pens use an oil based ink. The oil based ink is dispensed at the tip during use by the rolling action of the tungsten carbide. The ink dries almost immediately after contact with paper. Inexpensive, reliable and maintenance free, the ballpoint has replaced the fountain pen as the most popular tool for everyday writing. Ballpoint pens include: Super Grip, BPS-GP, BPS, Rexgrip and BP-145. Gel ink pens Gel ink pens uses ink in which pigment is suspended in a water-based gel. Because the ink is thick & opaque, it shows up more clearly on dark surfaces. Gel ink provides the user with smooth, effortless writing with vivid colours and no blobbing. Gel ink is acid free and archival safe Gel ink pens include: G2, G1 Grip and G2-ex Rollerball pens Rollerball pens are writing instruments which use ballpoint writing instruments with waterbased liquid or gel ink. The rollerball pen was designed to combine the convenience of a ballpoint pen with the smooth 'wet ink' effect of a fountain pen. The characteristics of these less viscous inks gives them distinctive writing qualities (i.e. ink saturates more deeply & widely into the paper). Rollerball pens include: V Ball and V Ball Grip Hi-Tecpoint pens Hi-tecpoint pens have a unique stainless steel tip that uses 3 or 4 dimples to support the ball. Other Pilot pens have the ball seated by hallowing out the metal tip. The advantage of supporting the ball with dimples is a reduction in the wear surface allowing a smoother rotation of the ball. Hi-tecpoint pens have a needle point tip. Hi-tecpoint pens include: Hi-tecpoint Retractable, Hi-tecpoint Grip, Hi-tecpoint BX-V5/V7 and Laundry-Tec.

Tungsten Carbide Ball – All Pilot ballpoint pens have stainless steel tips that house the tungsten carbide ball. The ball keeps its round shape ensuring the line remains precise and regular, without blotches or leaks. ATT System – Air Tight and Through System. ATT is an adjusted spring and pen tip holder which keeps the pen tip air tight. ATT assures optimum conditions for instant writing every time. ATT System is used in the following pens: V Ball, V Ball Grip, Hi-tecpoint and Hi-tecpoint Grip. Ink Regulator – Any excess ink flow from the ink reservoir while writing is stored temporarily in special pen core by capillary action. This ensures stable and constant writing supply to the last drop. Mechanical Pencils - Full sliding retractable sleeve – The sleeve of the pencil fully retracts within the body of the mechanical pencil for safety and is convenient for carrying in your shirt pocket. Felt Tips - Metal supported fine tip – Pilot offers plastic points reinforced by metal sleeves to ensure greater durability and longer life. This ensures an accurate stroke throughout the life of the marker. Capless - The first retractable fountain pen in the world. It incorporates an innovative design and uses advanced technology to constantly keep the nib in optimal writing condition.

The Pilot B2P (Bottle to Pen) are made with PET from recycled plastic bottles. The B2P Gel Ink is made with 89% recycled materials (excluding replaceable parts).

The Frixion pen contains a unique ink that is thermo-sensitive. When you rub the eraser on the end of the pen against the paper, you generate enough friction heat to turn the ink invisible (making it look like it has been erased). This situation also happens if the pen or the notes are exposed to extreme heat; eg. Left in a warm car or in direct sunlight, the ink will go invisible/clear and appears not to be working. The ink will reappear when it is exposed to extreme cold, it will reappear in the pen and on the paper. Ideally place the pen in the freezer for 15 to 20 minutes and then bring back to room temperature before writing with them again. This trick also works if you wish to bring back erased notes. Keep in mind that with the Frixion ink being thermo-sensitive, it is not suitable for signing legal documents or cheques.

The barrel of the Frixion Clicker pens has been designed to allow for the end of the pen to hold our eraser. With this we would not want our pen to continue clicking whenever we try to erase our work! So instead we have designed for the clip on the side of the barrel to retract the pen nib in and out when you slide it down the barrel of the pen.
